Liposuction is another one of the most popularly performed cosmetic procedures. Most patients find the idea of unwanted fat removal understandably appealing, particularly if they’ve struggled to achieve their weight loss goals through diet and exercise alone.
However, for transgender people, liposuction does more than just create a slimmer, more toned figure. In fact, this procedure has little to do with weight loss at all. Rather, it allows our skilled cosmetic surgeons to contour the body in a manner consistent with the patient’s gender identity.
During the operation, the patient will be put under anesthesia, incisions made at the sites where fat removal is to occur, and a vacuum-suctioning tool called a cannula will be inserted. The surgeon will gently move the cannula back and forth to break up the fat deposits, which are then suctioned out.
“I had an excellent experience at Rowe Plastic Surgery. The staff were accomodating and informed, making me feel comfortable at every step. I highly recommend the team here!
For male-to-female (MTF) patients, removal of fat from the abdomen, the lower back, and beneath the buttocks is standard and can help create a more feminine appearance by accentuating the curves of the buttocks and hips. Fat may also be removed from other parts of the body, and depending on the patient’s goals, the liposuctioned fat can then be transferred into the buttocks and hips to increase their size. This is known as fat grafting, and it’s popularly done in conjunction with gender-affirming liposuction.
