Gender-Affirming Lip Augmentation

Lip implants and fat injections are two popular methods of lip augmentation.

Generally speaking, people assigned male at birth tend to have thinner lips than those assigned female at birth. For that reason, it’s understandable that many male-to-female (MTF) patients choose to undergo lip augmentation to achieve a more classically feminine appearance.

“I had an excellent experience at Rowe Plastic Surgery. The staff were accomodating and informed, making me feel comfortable at every step. I highly recommend the team here!

This an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, and it typically takes under an hour to complete. You will have a consultation with your surgeon, and together you’ll decide which method of augmentation is best for you. In the case of fat injections, fat must first be removed from another part of your body and purified in preparation to be injected into your lips. If you opt for lip implants, some soft, flexible implants will simply be inserted into your upper and lower lips.

Most patients can safely undergo lip augmentation. However, the procedure might not be an ideal fit for you if:

  • You suffer from blood clots
  • You have a chronic illness such as diabetes or lupus
  • Your lips are scarred
  • You are experiencing a cold sore outbreak at the time of the procedure
