Breast Augmentation in Monmouth County

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure, but can also be performed in breast reconstruction surgeries as well. It remains one of the most popular aesthetic procedures due to its high satisfaction rate. Breast augmentation is a great option for certain women who are unhappy with the size, shape, and/or appearance of their breasts. Breast augmentation surgery can help enhance or restore self-confidence by improving breast symmetry, creating more of an hour-glass figure, and can make finding clothes that fit easier.

Breast augmentation surgery involves increasing the volume of the breasts through the use of a saline (salt water) or a silicone gel implant. There are advantages and disadvantages to using either type of implant, but silicone implants are often preferred due to a more natural look and feel.

Our doctors use only the highest quality materials during surgery. We offer all types and styles of silicone implants including cohesive gel or “Gummy Bear” implants. These implants use the latest technology to provide a more stable form of silicone that does not “leak” like older implants used to, should the implant shell rupture.

Our surgeons individualize the surgery, designing it specifically for every patient. During your consultation the physician will go over all your options and, together, you will come up with a plan that fits your needs.

“… Dr. Rowe makes everything about what you want. He asks you what your breast surgery end goals are and focuses on them….I’m only upset I didn’t do this sooner! ~E.A.

Procedure

Our doctors use the latest techniques to eliminate or hide the scars completely. The procedure involves a very short incision, usually under your breast, where it is completely hidden. Sometimes different incisions are used based on the type of implant you choose or if a breast lift is being performed at the same time. These incisions can be around the areola or in the axilla (arm pit). The implant will then be placed either underneath the breast tissue or underneath the pectoralis major muscle (your chest muscle) depending on your individual needs.

Breast enhancement takes approximately 1 hour, and you will be asleep for the duration of the procedure. You will go home the same day. You will have a surgical bra in place. There are no sutures that need to be removed. There are no drains. We will see you in the office the day after surgery, at one week, and then extend your appointments out from there depending on how you are doing. You can expect that your breasts will feel “tight” for a few weeks after your procedure. This is related to swelling and will resolve. You may feel sore for the first week. Healing takes place around 2 weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 6 weeks.

Breast Feeding

Breast augmentation should not affect your ability to breast-feed. Occasionally, some women choose to wait until after they have children to proceed with augmentation as your breasts can change after having children.

Risks

Although rare, the most common risks associated with breast enhancement surgery include capsular contracture. This is scar tissue that can form around the implant. Our doctors use various techniques to help limit this risk as much as possible. Other risks include infection and bleeding. Recently, there has been an association found between breast augmentation and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). This extremely rare disease is mainly associated with certain types of implants. Our doctors can go over this with you in detail. The following link will give you more in-depth information on this evolving topic.
